The Adult Numeracy Network is currently seeking a Secretary.

Please check out the Invitation to Apply for the Open Secretary Open Position, which includes a description of the duties and next steps for learning more about this opportunity.

A Message from the outgoing Secretary, and newly elected President-Elect of ANN, Heidi Schuler-Jones:

Dear ANN friends,

I first came to learn about ANN because two ANN board members approached me at COABE about joining the organization. I had never heard of ANN at that point, but I believed in the numeracy work of these two women and knew I wanted to be part of their efforts.

That simple invitation to join the group led to more invitations to get involved with pre-conference planning, state representation, regional rep work, and eventually secretary. At every invitation along the way I questioned if I was the right person for the job and if I'd have the time to take on one more thing. In the end, I learned from the ones before me how to do the work and added new tasks and goals for those positions as the organization grew. I found ways to balance my time to support the work of ANN and leaned on others in ANN leadership when my plate was full.

What I never anticipated when I accepted that first invitation to join ANN and its leadership were the abundance of opportunities it would afford me to grow professionally and to network with some of the most amazing people I've ever known. I cannot imagine how different my life would be today had those two ANN leaders not invited me to join ANN and had I not continued to receive invitations to do more with that membership.

So, I want to personally send this invitation out to all of you. You already have taken that first step in becoming an ANN member. Are you ready to take the next step? We have plenty of ways to get involved and specifically are searching for a candidate to fill the secretary board position. Even if you've never served in leadership with ANN (or anywhere else!), know that this invitation to serve in this organization's leadership is for YOU. You will be supported every step of the way, just as I was supported, and I promise the friendships and connections you make through leadership in ANN are worth the extra time. Could you be the next ANN secretary? I invite you to read more about it and take the next step if interested.

Sincerely,

Heidi Schuler-Jones

President-Elect
