ANN Presidential Appointment Candidate Application Process

The Adult Numeracy Network is adding a new Board position: Equity Officer. 

The duties of the position can be found at ANN Officers’ Duties and include:

● Model curiosity and a growth mindset around equity in math education; link ANN’s mission to revealing the brilliance of all adult learners.

● Facilitate learning opportunities with the board to help each of us grow our own understanding of equity and see ANN’s mission through an equity lens.

● Support the establishment and ongoing productivity of equity committees; serve as a liaison between equity committee chairs and the board.

● Connect with leaders of organizations that advance equity in math education, especially other NCTM affiliates, including TODOS Mathematics for All and the Benjamin Banneker Assoc., with the intent of establishing lasting connections.

● Support equity actions across ANN by checking in with an equity-focused contact from each committee.

● Pursue other related duties per their interests and member needs.

● Additionally, during the two year presidential appointment, the holder of this position will work towards formalizing the position through an eventual amendment to the Officers’ Duties 

All candidates for this position will need to complete the following 3 steps:

STEP 1: ANN Presidential Appointment Candidate Interest Form

Complete the ANN Presidential Appointment Candidate Interest Form below by September 17, 2021. 

STEP 2: Candidate interviews

  • Schedule 30-minute conversation with the Nominating Committee

  • Heidi Schuler-Jones, Nominating Committee Chair will email you with available times to meet.
  • Meetings will take place October 4-15.
  • In addition to your response to the questions on the Candidate Interest Form, the Committee also would like to discuss the:
    • skills, knowledge, and experience you would bring to the organization, and how you would be of benefit to this role,
    • dreams or ideas you have for this position,
    • ideas about equity in numeracy and furthering equity in ANN.

    STEP 3: Nominating Committee Review

    Nominating Committee reviews all candidates and selects the candidate to recommend to the Board - Week of Oct 18, 2021

    • By Oct 25, 2021, Board completes the Presidential Appointment Vote following the Consensus Model
    • By Nov 1, 2021, all candidates will be notified of outcome.

    • New officer begins their term on the Board on November 1, 2021 and is invited to attend the next quarterly Board meeting on November 8, 2021
