In this session we will discuss the relationship between 2SLGBTQIA+ identity and mathematics teaching and learning. Participants will learn how fostering positive 2SLGBTQIA+ identity can positively impact students' mathematics identity and how this relates to increasing the number of 2SLGBTQIA+ identified individuals in STEM fields. These conversations will be used to discuss why it is essential to begin including 2SLGBTQIA+ identity in conversations and initiatives to diversity STEM and to engage in equitable mathematics teaching. Participants will also learn one or two steps they can take today to begin attending to 2SLGBTQIA+ identity in their mathematics instruction.
