In What Counts? The Tyranny of HSE Testing, Charlie Brover and Solange Farina combined their collective 60+ years of adult numeracy instruction to speak about the effect the Common-Core aligned assessments have had on our students and our field.
They make the case for not ceding our classrooms to the publishers and test-makers and helping our students develop the math they need to be empowered members of our society.
Charlie & Solange's CALL-TO-ACTION:
- Take a political stance against for-profit, capitalist testing companies.
- Be actively critical of CCSS-aligned tests.
- Read and Examine the works of numeracy advocates.
- Teach numeracy and problem-solving in the classroom. Don't cede your classroom to the publishers and test-makers.
